How to teach a child?
by GapingMouth ini have a daughter who is nearly 16 months old, and it won't be long before she starts understanding more and more of the rubbish at the khs my wife takes her to.
she will be very exposed to a lot of creationist junk and i can just imagine her getting brainwashed just as i was a born-in.
luckily i am in a position to reduce that or perhaps counter it completely.

Why do Christians want to be part of a religion that Jesus did not endorse?
by AK - Jeff inhe was a martyr.
he had wonderful moral teaching [if we can attribute it to him honestly].
he drew a crowd.. could have said any of that about ghandi.

I honestly think that for some (especially the conservative & therefore repressed) Christians, the 'love' for Jesus is a kind of sexual perversion.

Is Atheism a Form of Blind Faith?
by passwordprotected inif god is outside of nature and therefore cannot be proved or disproved by science, is atheism a form of blind faith?
after all, it cannot be defended on the basis of pure reason.. steven jay gould said;.
"science simply cannot by its legitimate methods adjudicate the issue of god's possible superintendence of nature.

Perry at least gives us solid evidence that if God does exist, he only reveals himself to bigoted morons.

2010 got scared today! OLD AGE! Born in 1972 realized I may only live to 2050!
by Witness 007 inif i live to 80 in 2050 thats in only 40 years and if i'm lucky.....not long.
believing that a "god" will whisk me away to heaven would be very comforting....but i just can't do it.
ever think about dying of old age?.

I'm 22 this month, most of my family live until at least 80, which would mean i would still be alive in 2067, which is quite a long way in the future i guess, relatively speaking anyway... however, i keep thinking that i'll probably get cancer or something (i'm a hypochondriac) & die before i'm 30
That said, my grandad is 88, & if i'm still alive at his age, the year will be 2075... 100 years after armageddon

You don't understand relativity. Time isn't changeable, it's simply relative to each individual. It says nothing about time being changeable or having a beginning or anything like that. Don't tackle subjects you know nothing about purely for the purpose of name-dropping a prominent scientist in order to add weight to what you are saying.
I can't speak for all atheists, but i personally am not guilty of knowing 'nothing about nothing'... i simply do not know everything about everything, & i reserve judgement on things until empirical evidence is presented. I am not adeist, as i do not know that the universe was not created, my personal opinion is that it probably was not, but i am happy to achnowledge that i could be proven wrong on that.
I am however atheist (& when it comes to the god of the bible, i am most definately an anti-theist, & i'm sure you needn't spend too much time guessing why), as the idea of a personal god (with whom one can have initimate fellowship) is demonstrably subjective to the point where to take someone elses testimony on it seriously would be favouritism in the extreme. Christians can believe what they want, but they deserve to be taken no more seriously than those who continue to spot Elvis every year. Because we know so much (no, not everything, but a hell of a lot) about the history of the Ambrahamic religions now, it is somewhat absurd to believe that any of the god's they worship are anything more than man-made. If the universe was created, then these god's had nothing to do with it. At least, they had about as much to do with it as the tooth fairy did with the invention of dental braces.
